Half the floor space
A stacked pair puts a washer and dryer in roughly 0.5 square metres of floor, so a cupboard, back-of-house nook or corridor alcove becomes a working laundry.
Equipment

When the room is small but the linen is not, a stacking washer and dryer is the answer. We supply, install and service commercial stackable pairs and upright washer dryer columns across Australia, from single-phase units in a student housing cupboard to hard-working stacks in aged care.
Why stack
Stacking is not a compromise. Done properly it improves the workflow as much as it saves the floor.
A stacked pair puts a washer and dryer in roughly 0.5 square metres of floor, so a cupboard, back-of-house nook or corridor alcove becomes a working laundry.
Load, transfer, unload at chest height. No bending into a low dryer and no walking wet linen across the room.
Add card, tap or app-based payment so a communal laundry earns revenue instead of costing you money in power and complaints.
Commercial-grade bearings, drums and controls rated for thousands of cycles, not the 5 year domestic lifespan of a retail stack.
Choosing a size
The right choice comes down to cycles per day and who is operating the machine.

These terms get used interchangeably, and they are not quite the same thing. Here is what each one means when you are specifying a commercial site.
Two separate machines joined with a stacking kit, so you can replace either half on its own and mix capacities to suit the load.
The same column arrangement, dryer above washer. In commercial ranges this is a factory frame rather than a bracket, rated for the weight and the vibration.
An upright washer dryer column built as one factory unit with shared controls and a single service panel. The tidiest option for a public-facing laundry.
A single drum that washes then dries. It saves the most space but halves your throughput, because one load ties up the machine for the full cycle.

Upright washer dryer columns
An upright column is the neatest way to put a full laundry in a small room. These four things decide whether it works on your site.
Around 0.5m² of floor for a full wash and dry pair. Most upright columns are 600 to 700mm wide, 700 to 800mm deep and 1.8 to 2.1m tall.
A commercial stacking frame is engineered for a washer extracting at high G with a dryer above it. Domestic brackets are not, which is why they walk and rattle.
Light commercial uprights run on single phase with a standard drain. Larger stacks take three phase, and the dryer can be electric, gas or heat pump.
Front and side service access means a technician works on either machine without unstacking, so repairs take an hour, not a day.
Buying guide
One stack comfortably handles 8 to 12 loads a day. Work out loads per day from residents or beds, then divide, and add a spare where downtime would hurt.
A dryer should be around 1.5 times the washer capacity so a full wash load dries in one cycle. Mismatched pairs create a queue at the dryer.
Coin, card, tap or app changes the controls you order. Retrofitting later costs more than specifying it on day one.
An upright is tall. Confirm the machine fits through doors and lifts, and that the room height clears the top dryer door when open.

Stacked washer dryer FAQs
A stacked washer dryer is a washing machine and a tumble dryer installed vertically as a single column, with the dryer mounted above the washer on a purpose-built stacking kit or factory frame. It delivers the same wash and dry capacity as a side-by-side pair in roughly half the floor space.
Most commercial stacks are 600mm to 700mm wide and 700mm to 800mm deep, standing about 1.8 to 2.1 metres tall. Allow additional clearance at the rear for services and enough front access for a technician to remove panels.
For any shared or business use, yes. Domestic stacks are rated for roughly one household load per day, while commercial units are engineered for thousands of cycles, accept payment systems and are supported by parts and technicians rather than a retail warranty.
Yes. Aqualogic fits card, tap and app-based payment to stacked units, with remote pricing and reporting so you can adjust prices and see revenue per machine without visiting site.
Not always. Light-commercial stacks up to about 11kg are commonly available in single-phase configurations. Larger commercial stacks and higher-output dryers usually require three phase, and gas heating is an option where it is available on site.
In practice they describe the same thing: a dryer mounted above a washer. Stackable usually refers to two separate machines joined with a stacking kit. Stacking washer and dryer, or an upright washer dryer, more often means a factory built column with a shared frame. Both are available from Aqualogic in commercial grades.
No. Only machines the manufacturer rates for stacking, with a matching stacking kit or frame, should be stacked. A commercial washer extracts at high G and the frame has to hold the dryer steady through that. We only supply pairs designed to go together.
Light commercial stacked pairs generally start in the mid four figures installed. Commercial grade uprights with higher capacity, three phase power and payment systems sit in the five figure range. We quote per site, and finance and rental options are available.
Yes. A row of upright columns doubles the number of machines in a given frontage and keeps the customer flow simple: wash below, dry above, pay at the same point. They are a common choice for small format and unattended laundromats.
That is one of the most common installations. A single phase light commercial stack fits in a cupboard or corridor alcove on each floor, takes app or card payment and is serviced under a maintenance program so building managers are not chasing repairs.
For shared living, gyms and holiday parks, an 8 to 11kg washer over a 11 to 15kg dryer handles most sites. For aged care, clinics and hotels, move to 13 to 25kg washers with a dryer sized about 1.5 times the washer. We size on loads per day rather than headcount alone.
