The RFS Chifley Fire Control Centre, based in Bathurst, approached Aqualogic to supply and install suitable commercial laundry equipment on site. Prior to this, they had been outsourcing their laundry, including sending home dirty protective gear with employees and volunteers to wash themselves. Not only was it inconvenient sending protective gear offsite, but posed further risk to their team. Domestic washing machines can often damage special protective clothing, as well as deliver ineffective wash results, leading to less effective protection. When the protective gear is not washed properly, it is hotter to wear, harder to see, and can potentially ignite or conduct electricity, rendering it not very safe at all. Also, gear worn during firefighting can absorb toxins that can be carcinogenic and absorbed into the skin when touched. Aqualogic were able to provide a safe and suitable solution for the RFS Control Centre’s laundry challenges. We installed an IPSO IA180 hardmount 18kg washer and an IPSO Drying cabinet on site. The 18kg washer is a great size to accommodate for that bulky protective gear, and the drying cabinet allows the gear to dry on hanging racks, reducing the amount of wear and tear, making the gear much safer and last longer. Now the gear doesn’t have to leave the Control Centre, and the team’s overall risk is significantly reduced.
