It is widely recognised that even in a financial crisis, laundry businesses will stay afloat because you cannot go without clean linen. Hence why adding a coin operated machine to your business or residential set-up can be a great source of additional income, as well as a selling point to set you apart from the competition. We’ve put together a guide for the best coin-operated machines for every situation to help you get started. Whether you’re a holiday park, a laundromat, or university dorms, Aqualogic have coin-operated and vended washers and dryers suitable for your business.

Holiday Parks

The average load that will go through these laundries will be domestic in size. Therefore, it makes sense that your washers and dryers will also be domestic in size. However, the machines should be commercial in their design and manufacture. Although the load size is what you would typically see in the home, the machines will be used so much more than your typical household. Commercial laundry equipment, and even semi-commercial laundry equipment, are durable and made to be used over and over and over again, day in day out. A commercial washer and dryer will be able to withstand the level of use at a holiday park.

We have a range of coin-operated washers and dryers, that are available in semi-commercial models and commercial models. Our coin operated machines start at 7kg (Semi-Commercial Top loader). We recommend the next size up for holiday park style accommodation, the 9.5kg front loader, as this will accommodate for families. There are also many benefits to a front load washing machine compared to a top load washing machine, including that they use less electricity because of their inverter driver technology, and up to 50% less water.

If you’re tight on space, the 9.5kg front loader is available in a combo washer-dryer stack unit. We also offer a semi-commercial two dryer stack unit, which is very popular among our holiday park clients.

For those looking for a more robust washer or dryer, you’re best to go with our commercial coin-operated models, which start at 8kg capacity. The coin-operated commercial range of washers and dryers have a much stronger design and made of stronger materials, so they will tolerate high usage very well and last a long time. They are also fully programmable which allows for more wash options and a better auto-dosing setup for detergent.

Holiday parks are required to provide laundries for their residents and guests. The current NSW holiday park legislation lays out that one washing machine is required for every 25 long term sites and at least one washing machine for every 30 short-term sites. One dryer is required for every 60 long term sites, and one clothes dryer for every 80 short term sites. The minimum number of tumble dryers is one. You can read the full legislation here surrounding requirements for the laundry, or if you have any questions reach out to the Aqualogic team, we’ll be happy to help!

Motels & Hostels

Having a coin laundry can be a great drawcard that sets you apart from the competition and increases guest satisfaction. It can also be a bonus additional revenue for your business.

The type and size of machine most suitable for motels and hostels really depends on the number of beds and the type of accommodation. For example, a large hostel that may have guests that stay for weeks would require a sturdy machine/s that can tolerate higher usage. Whereas a motel which has more overnight guests or accommodates business travellers, may be better suited to a semi-commercial machine, since it won’t be used as much.

Needless to say, budget will also play a big factor in what machine is best for your business. That’s why at Aqualogic we provide tailored laundry solutions so that you can find the best commercial laundry equipment for your business needs. A quick conversation with one of our laundry experts and we’ll be able to make a recommendation that will deliver the results you’re after.

College, University & Multi-Housing Shared Laundries

The most suitable commercial laundry equipment for dorms and multi-housing laundries is contingent on how many residents are in the building, as well as your budget. Of course, you can always take advantage of our rental programs or our finance options to assist with upfront capital.

The IPSO coin-operated CW10C semi-commercial washer will do the job, however they’re not as sturdy as the IPSO IA80C hardmount commercial washer. One area of difference is the drain design. The IA80C hardmount washer uses a drain valve which uses gravity to release the water, whereas the CW10 uses a pump drain, which pumps the water up and out. Pump drains have much smaller pipes which means loose items are more likely to get stuck in the pump, blocking the dirty water from escaping. This is a common problem in dorm room settings with bobby pins and bra underwires often getting caught in the pump, requiring a technician to come out and unblock the drain. This may be something to factor into the cost of a CW10C.

If you did decide to go with a commercial model, it’s always best to go with a hardmount washer as these are harder to throw of balance. In a multi-housing environment, people are more likely to underload or overload the machine, throwing the machine off balance which can damage the machine and shorten its lifespan.

Laundromats

Laundromats often operate for long hours, some even 24 hours. For this reason, laundromats require commercial model washers and dryers. Again, hardmount washers are the best option, as to minimise throwing the machine off balance from under and overloading.

We always recommend having a variety of machine sizes to suit different customers’ needs. Some customers like to do their weekly wash, others just want to wash their doona because it’s too big for their machine at home. The space that you have, as well as budget, will determine how many machines you require. If you’re pressed for space, the IPSO coin operated stacked tumble dryer in 15kg and 21kg capacity is a great option.

A really neat idea that has been taking off is to have a washer and dryer dedicated solely to pet items. There’s no denying Australia is a pet-loving country and people love to take good care of their pets. But it can be a challenge to wash fur covered blankets at home without spreading fur onto the next wash. Taking it to a local laundromat for a commercial grade wash is the best solution, and by having a machine dedicated to pets, it will deter people from sticking pet blankets in any of the other machines and potentially spreading fur to the next customer’s load.

When beginning the process of starting your own laundromat, in addition to deciding which how many coin-operated laundry machines you need and in which capacities, it is wise to consider the layout and design of your store. This needs to factor in energy sources and locations, air-ducting for dryers and correct hydraulics for water. If you’re not sure where to start, contact Aqualogic and we’ll be more than happy to work with you on your laundromat project.
