How to Purchase the Best Quality Laundry Equipment

Sourcing the best quality equipment for your commercial laundry will save you time, money and stress down the track. But how can you be sure that you are buying the best equipment?

At Aqualogic, we have been supplying, installing and maintaining industrial laundry equipment across Australia for almost 50 years. Over this time, we have seen many products come and go from the market, with varying degrees of quality. We have researched and tested these products for you, so that you can avoid the pitfalls of purchasing poor quality equipment.

We choose to supply and install IPSO washers and dryers because of their quality and reliability. To help you get the best quality equipment available, we have provided a list of key features to look for when purchasing laundry equipment, along with examples of how IPSO stacks up against Maytag*, another popular product on the market.

What To Look For When Purchasing Commercial Laundry Equipment

If you are running a laundry business, it is important that your equipment saves you time and money. The IPSO machines have a wash cycle of 27 minutes, compared to Maytag’s 36 minutes plus fill time. IPSO also uses less water, at 44.2L per wash compared to 47L.

The faster wash cycle and reduced water use of IPSO equates to money in your pocket!

As business people, we all want to provide great service so that our customers keep coming back. You can ensure that your laundry customers are happy every time by using equipment that does the job well.

For example, IPSO has an effective wash cycle, which ensures that the entire load is wet during a wash. In a Maytag wash, fabrics in the center of the drum do not get wet during a medium size load on a default setting.

Also important to usability is the opening size of the door, which allows easier and faster input and removal of clothes. IPSO boasts a 394mm door opening compared to 355mm in the Maytag models.

Your laundry equipment will need to be periodically serviced and maintained, and a design that gives you easy access to the service panel will save you a lot of time and hassle.

The IPSO machines have a service access panel on the front of the unit, eliminating the need to awkwardly reach for screws on the side of the machine.

Commercial washers and dryers are fitted with many small parts that each play a big role in the ongoing reliability of a machine. When these parts are of poor quality or low durability, your service costs will increase and your profits will decrease. Here a some of the key fixtures to look for:

Leveling legs: Many machines such as Maytag have small 3/8 inch leveling legs, which can easily break under pressure. Look for more durable leveling legs, such as IPSO’s 1/2 inch.

Door lock: Complex door locks with multiple parts can be susceptible to failure and difficult to fix. IPSO offers a simple door lock solution that is fully encased with fewer connections and parts.

Door hinge: A simple, stainless steel door hinge is more sturdy and easier to replace than the complex aluminum hinge used in the Maytag model.

Hoses: Always look for reinforced internal hoses that can withstand high-pressure applications. Likewise, a heavy duty rubber drain hose with a larger diameter will allow for less clogging, better drainage, and be less likely to break or kink. The IPSO rubber drain hose is 37% larger in diameter than the standard plastic drain hose used by Maytag.

Wiring: Wiring can easily be damaged during services if it is not stored away neatly. Look for wire clips, rather than plastic routing channels, to avoid unnecessary damage.

The durability of the outer tub is essential to the effective operation of the machine, and both the tub itself and its mountings should be considered.

An outer tub made of plastic is susceptible to damage from foreign objects, and can hold odors. In comparison, a stainless steel tub is durable and odor-resistant.

Mounting of the tub is another important consideration. For example, the IPSO tub is mounted on four shocks. If one shock breaks, the machine will continue to function. In comparison, the Maytag tub is suspended from two springs attached to the cabinet. If one spring and/or its plastic clip breaks, the machine is inoperable.

A commercial environment requires heavy-duty shaft and bearings for long-term reliability.

The IPSO machine has a heavy-duty shaft that is 1.57 inches and 38% larger than Maytag in the front bearing area, and 1.18 inches and 20% larger in the rear.

Maytag bearings are not only smaller than IPSO, but they are moulded into the outer tub. This means that, if the bearings fail, the entire back half of the outer tub needs to be replaced. IPSO bearings however are heavy-duty and built for a commercial environment, with separate housing that can easily be removed for servicing.
